Refocus That Please - by Mike Griffith

Last month's meeting was a combination of somewhat joyful comedy of errors. First, we got locked out of the Church.  Marilyn offered to hold the meeting at her house and since we all beat her to her own house, she had a minus 10 minutes to prepare.  She did superbly!  Within minutes she had coffee brewing (two kinds), snacks and cookies out, and color-coodinated plates.  Unfortunately, she missed most of the competition, but we'll make that up to her (we'll give her a weeks notice when we have the next competition at her house...).

Lamar filled in for Larry. Lamar went all out to make sure he doesn't get Larry's job permanently. He brought his projector WITH NO LIGHT BULBS IN IT !! He did have ONE spare, so we did get to see everything projected in non-stereo. Since it was a competition, we did have a hand-held viewer for the purist who wanted to make sure that the views that won were actually in stereo.

Here are the winners:

1st place                       La Boca                       Steve Hughes

2nd place                     Big Laurel Falls             Vince Macek

3rd place                      Georgia Ruins               Huck Devenzio

Honorary mention         Brenda's Laundry         Bert Arps

Honorary mention         No Gas Today             Vince Macek

Next month's meeting is Friday, February 8th. We judge another's club views that night. (It is the one that we so ruthlessly edit with the three paddles...)

We meet at the Congregational Church at 7:30.  Dave Horton has the refreshments.  Ya'll try and make this one since this is a lot of fun and there are always some great stereoviews to be seen.

There is an excellent exhibit at the Atlanta History Center on early Photography. Well worth seeing. They only have one stereo - but it's an ambrotype (glass) of a photographer's self-portrait in his Confederate uniform (if you're going to have just one...) The exhibit is of very rare daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, tins and cdvs and cabinet cards.

Hope to see you on February 8th !

Remember, the meeting is Friday, February 8th at 7:30 at the Congregational Church.  The church is at 2676 Clairmont Road (about 1 1/2 blocks south of I-85).

Editor’s note:  Bert Arps sent me a note suggesting that the entrants in the competition last month bring their slides this month for a showing before the regular program.  He says that he would like to see the other half of the slide!  I think that this is a good suggestion, so don’t show up late or you will miss out.

Also, we need to discuss getting a new place to meet.  All suggestions are welcome.
