Refocus That Please - by Ralph Reiley

Due to a death in the family, the schedules for November and December are being rearranged.  The November program will be View-Master night.  This is your chance to see those inspiring reels from our youth projected and see what new images are being created by the photographers who are keeping VM creativity alive.  If you have something which you would like to share, bring it to the meeting.  The workshop will be by The President who will demonstrate and elucidate slide mounting in the 1950's style.

The December 12 meeting will be the annual Christmas Party and selections from the Stereo Theater digital projection at the Grand Rapids Convention this past summer.  Plan to attend since the material is really superb 3D.

October meeting Report:

At the October meeting there were 12 people in attendance including one guest, Rene’ Dixon.

Lee Pratt presented the 2008 PSA Sequence Show.  This year’s Sequence Show was excellent, but that is what we have come to expect from past Sequence Shows.  There were 3 Honorable Mentions, two of them won by Robert Bloomberg, and one by Cecil Stone.  3rd place went to Linda Nygren for Weeds or Wildflowers.  2nd place went to Dennis Green for Special Effects in Stereo.  1st place went to Steve and Suzanne Hughes for Beauty in the Dark.

Andrea Shetley gave a presentation on macro stereo photography.  She presented some of her macro stereo slides, including several praying mantises that she is noted for. She then gave a short workshop on the equipment needed for doing macro work, which includes a pistol grip swivel mount for adjusting the camera on top of the tripod, a very versatile tripod than can be adjusted so that the camera can be set only a few inches off the ground, reflectors and diffusers she uses to adjust the lighting, and other accoutrements.  She has truly mastered the specialized art of macro stereo, using a single SLR camera.

The meeting is the 2nd Friday of this month – November 14th. We will meet at 7:30 PM at the Congregational Church @ 2676 Clairmont Road (about 1 1/2 blocks south of I-85) This is the Church up the winding road, through the woods.  If you have any questions, call Bill Moll @ 706-859-7726 or WHMoll@aol.com.  We will meet at the Fortune Cookie in Loehmann's Plaza at Briarcliff and North Druid Hills at 5:30 PM for dinner before the meeting.
