Refocus That Please - by Bill Moll
This month’s program will be the Club Competition Night and a slide mounting workshop. The workshop will be first, since there are no shades in the room.
The meeting is the 2nd Friday of this month – May 12. We will meet at 7:30 PM at the Congregational Church @ 2676 Clairmont Road (about 1 1/2 blocks south of I-85) This is the Church up the winding road, through the woods. If you have any questions, call Bill Moll @ 706-859-7726.
April meeting(s) report:
There were about 12 attendees. There was some skin in the 3D sequences. The digital cameras all used batteries. Ok – I wasn't there and have a slim report.
However, I did attend the Stereo Club of New England meeting for April. Their former meeting place bumped the rental from $0 to about $700, so this was their first dinner meeting and in another location. It was held in Lowell, MA, which compared to Boston would be like having the ASA meeting in north Cumming.
I got a 45 minute ride to the restaurant from the tube end-of-line from Ralph. Ralph lived in Newton, about ½ mile from where I had watched part of the Boston Marathon earlier that day. He had some great cameras and the world's largest collection of stereocards of cats – about 300 or so.
The meeting was at the Bombay Mahal - $20 for a good Indian buffet. About 30 people attended. During dinner, there was an informal show-and-tell. Then Jon Golden projected the ISU club folio. The images were generally good, but some mounting was poor and a couple images as well. The surprise was that some lesser known clubs had some great images – a couple of sharp focus flower macros and some sunsets/sunrises in particular.
Next, Jon showed some of his collection of 1950's slides from India. The restaurant staff helped with identification and pronunciation. We might consider trying some of that type of projection. Overall, it was a good meeting with a diverse good of attendees – one person drove from Connecticut. Since the tube line was under repair when I headed back to my hotel, I assume that he got home before I did.
If you are traveling to foreign cities, like north of the Mason/Dixon line, check on the local 3D club meetings. I have been to meetings in New York City, DC and Boston, just missing one in Melbourne, Australia. They are good fun and you will be welcomed like a friend, which you are in the small 3D club family.
