Refocus That Please - by Bill Moll

This month’s program will be club competition night, a show by Steve and Suzanne Hughes and final planning for the 2nd Georgia 3DFest on February 12.  Also, after several years of plentiful supplies of cheap Realists, the supply has dried up a bit and several new members can’t find one.  If you have a spare that you would like to sell, bring it by before the meeting.  Also, we will have a very informal slide mounting exercise from 7:00 to 7:30 PM.

The last club competition was rather puny in participation.  This is a chance to share with your work with other members without having to do a whole show.  It is in the spirit of sharing, not cut-throat competition.  (Of course, one of our members claims that he doesn’t mind not winning – he just doesn’t care for losing).  Competition is for Realist-mount slides and stereocards in either Holmes, DEC or over/under format.  Steve and Suzanne won’t tell me which show they will bring, so it is either Antarctica, New Zealand or the Galapagos Islands or maybe hang-gliding.  So you will have to take your chances.

Come prepared to volunteer.  The 2nd Georgia 3DFest is February 12 at the Holiday Inn Select Conference Center in Decatur.  The entry fee is $5 but ASA members paid up for 2005 will get a $5 credit for the event.  Tables are $25 including admission to the event, so ASA members can get a table and event entry for $20.  Now for the work part.

In order to show off the fine work of club members, I request that each club member contribute up to 8 slides and 8 cards for exhibit at the 3D Fest. Bring the slides and cards to the meeting.  If you can’t come to the meeting, contact me and we can make some other arrangement.  These wouldn’t be mailed so the risk factor is low.

We also need some workers.  We will need people at 8 AM to help with setup for the exhibits and the projection – also with tear-down at 4:30 PM.  Most all, we need some spouses, friends or relatives to staff the registration table.  If we get 5 or 6 people, everyone can still enjoy the show.  We also need exhibit support.  If you have some 3D images or equipment which you would like to share, let me know so that I can reserve space for your exhibit.  We are also scheduling docent talks about the exhibits every hour

The meeting is the 2nd Friday of this month – January 14. We will meet at 7:30 PM at the Congregational Church @ 2676 Clairmont Road (about 1 1/2 blocks south of I-85) This is the Church up the winding road, through the woods.  If you have any questions, call Bill @ 706-859-7726.

The Christmas party was a great success with 23 in attendance.  Julia outdid herself with the food, Larry had some great shows and we saw why anaglyph movies often are accused of killing 3D, but we did have one person stop by during the movie.  One member, who will remain nameless, caused Julia to check to see if the punch was spiked after the classic statement “Larry, you better fix the focus.  Something is really wrong. Oops, I don’t have my glasses on!”

See you at the meeting on the 14th!
