Refocus That Please - by Ralph Reiley
This month's program will feature Mike Griffith, with his History of Early Stereo Views presentation, and the second portion of the program will be with Larry at the helm of the View-Master projector. So bring your favorite View-Master reels, and we will see how they look up on the big screen.
Last months meeting consisted of a club competition, a digital 3D video of cows promoting tourism in Hungary and a show on Carlsbad Caverns by Steve and Suzanne Hughes. 17 people attended the meeting, including some visitors, and a returning club member. Visitors included Mr. Eric Deren and his wife, and my son, Thomas, who may be the youngest visitor ever. Mr. Deren brought some very interesting 3D videos with him, and it is hoped that he will bring more. I would like to see the skydiving video as it was meant to be seen, technical difficulties beyond anyone's control prevented his interesting video projecting properly.
While I am a dedicated Realist man, and love 35mm slide film, the digital images are amazing. The stereo cards, slides and digital images were all of the highest quality, as is usual for our club. See the list below for the winners of the competition:
Slides:
First Place Grand Canyon in March Lee Pratt
Second Place Moss & Knees Huck Devenzio
Third Place Fenced In Huck Devenzio
Honorable Mention Red is Nice Larry Moor
Honorable Mention Great Gulf Larry Moor
Digital Projection:

Second Place Tubular Larry Moor
Third Place Frenchman's Reef Larry Moor
Honorable Mention Petrified Forest Steve Hughes
Honorable Mention Goose Power Steve Hughes

First Place Bomb Wheel Steve Hughes
Second Place Western Scenery Larry Moor
Third Place Twisted Tree Lee Pratt
Honorable Mention Seaside Splash Lee Pratt
Honorable Mention San Xavier Del Bac Larry Moor
Our able competition director, Ken Kistner, provided an excellent judge, Mr. James Porter, who had a difficult job in choosing the best photos from the group submitted, due to a plethora of talented photographers. There are so many good photographers in the club that it makes the judge's task difficult to choose a winner. Mr. Porter showed great spirit in judging the competition, and it is hoped that he will visit us again, and not have to work so hard.
Larry Moore handed out some ISCC ribbons, giving Lee Pratt and Huck Devenzio honorable mention awards for photos they submitted in competition. Larry also presented me with an ISCC award, ranking our club for 1st place in 2007.
Planning for the Fernbank exhibit for April 12, 2008, continues. I am sure we will have an excellent display, and the Fernbank Update e-mail is starting to pay off, as I am starting to hear from some people who are on the mailing list, but are not active members at this time.
Some final words of encouragement and inspiration, "Pay your dues, or we'll get Medieval on your hindquarters!"
