Refocus That Please - by Bill Moll

This month’s program will be the Christmas party, Larry’s selections, “It came from outer space” in widescreen 8mm with sound and new member contributions. Julia Moor coordinates a great spread of food and Larry comes up with his 3D selections for the holiday season.  I will show selections from ”It came from outer space” in anaglyph.  If you have any 8mm 3D movies, bring them along and share them.

We have added many new members in the past several months.  Bring in some of your Realist format slides and share them with the club.  January is club competition night with an outside judge.  This is a chance to see how your slides look when projected.  Slides look quite different when projected – the best projected slide will usually not be the same as the best hand-viewed slide. Old-time members are welcome to bring by some contributions also.

The meeting is the 2nd Friday of this month – December 10. We will meet at 7:30 PM at the Congregational Church @ 2676 Clairmont Road (about 1 1/2 blocks south of I-85) This is the Church up the winding road, through the woods.  If you have any questions, call Bill @ 706-859-7726.

Nineteen people attended the November meeting.  The International Stereo Club Competition was interesting as usual.  Larry Moor, Ken Kistner and Steve Hughes were the judges.  Dobbin Buck and Lewyn E. Geiger found us on the Internet and came to the meeting.  The mounting workshop had to be postponed, due to an ailing instructor.

Mike Kaplan came to the meeting from faraway Knoxville.  He had some of the newest View Production products and View-Master reels to show and sell.  He also had good news – the custom reel production has become so popular that Fisher-Price has made it a permanent little group within VM.  That assures the continued availability of custom VM images.  Before you plan on them doing a Christmas reel though, the minimum order is about 1,000 reels so you need lots of friends.

Other stuff

The 2nd Georgia 3DFest is February 12 at the Holiday Inn Select Conference Center in Decatur.  The entry fee is $5 but ASA members paid up for 2005 will get a $5 credit for the event.  Tables are $25 including admission to the event, so ASA members can get a table and event entry for $20.  Now for the work part.

In order to show off the fine work of club members, I propose that each club member contribute up to 8 slides and 8 cards for exhibit at the show.  Since these would not be part of a traveling show, there won’t be a problem with providing original slides.  However, we would use a generic sound track, so the slides might not be changed on the beat.

We also need some workers.  We will need people at 8 AM to help with setup for the exhibits and the projection – also with tear-down at 4:30 PM.  Most all, we need some spouses, friends or relatives to staff the registration table.  If we get 5 or 6 people, everyone can still enjoy the show.  We also need exhibit support.  If you have some 3D images or equipment which you would like to share, let me know so that I can reserve space for your exhibit.  We are also scheduling docent talks about the exhibits every hour.
